The Rain Picks Up

A short story I wrote for creative writing class. It takes place in an alternate timeline I long ago established, where the Europeans are delayed in reaching the New World by about three centuries and where the Iroquois League becomes a surrogate United States (albeit with a pesky rival in the Navajo), but that timeline is mostly irrelevant for this, except for proper nouns.
I don't think it's very good, but that's because I wrote it in three hours.
